He's so cute. I would never do that to my baby. Perhaps its their custom or way to bring their baby closer to their working place. For me it looks pretty cruel..., but for them..., I don't know..., maybe its convenient and suits with their lives needs.
Somehow, different races have their own different method in caring their offspring.
